Principles upon which the curriculum is based

We believe that the ability to communicate with one another is one of the most important skills we need in life. Almost everything we do involves communication. Everyday tasks such as learning at school, resolving problems, making friends and having fun all rely on our ability to communicate with each other.

Our aim is to provide learners with:

• An enriched and motivating curriculum
• Opportunities to learn in the way best suited to their learning needs and styles
• Independence
• Opportunities to be involved in real-life experience beyond the classroom
• Preparation for later education and readiness for life

Our pupils will access a broad and enriching mainstream curriculum differentiated through lessons that are delivered in a highly personalised way to connect and fully engage with every learner. We will also offer a comprehensive enrichment programme, encouraging and supporting our pupils to develop their independence skills and interests even further.

The emphasis will be on developing the individual's skills and abilities whilst fostering caring and positive attitudes. Pupils will participate in a full range of academic and social activities.

All pupils will be supported and challenged to:

• Achieve to the best of their ability in their academic, social, creative, personal, physical and moral development
• Grow in confidence and become as independent as possible
• Make a positive contribution to the school and the wider community, in which they are valued as individuals and act for the benefit of others.
